‘Bring Back Our Bobbies’-Labour campaign to restore policing at Elm Park and Dagenham Heathway.
On Saturday 24 June Margaret Mullane launched ‘a new model of politics’ for Dagenham & Rainham. The event was non-party political, and community led. At the April consultation event, with community representatives from across the constituency, the number one issue that came up from every group was crime and policing, followed closely by a lack of pride in the area due to increased fly-tipping and litter issues.
The key issue raised around crime and policing was the lack of police visibility at transport hubs, particularly Dagenham Heathway and Elm Park. So, the Bring Back Our Bobbies campaign will start by calling for a permanent SNT base to be restored to Dagenham Heathway.

Margaret has also set up a new action group to tackle street litter and fly-tipping called Cleaner Dagenham & Rainham, which will meet monthly in a different location to do a litter pick, report bulky waste, and attendees will be invited to join a social in a café afterwards. The focus will alternate between Dagenham and Rainham each month.

Margaret Mullane told the Havering Daily:“We know that the police are overstretched, we know that the council have had to reduce services due to cuts, but this project isn’t about political point scoring. That is why I am mobilising the community to be the drivers of change in our area. Cleaner streets and visible policing are just the start, there were lots of other issues raised by local people and in the coming year I will be working with all communities in Dagenham and Rainham to bring their concerns to the fore. Everyone has a stake in our future, and I want to empower people to take that step and be part of the change they want to see.”
