Dagenham and Rainham’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Labour, Margaret Mullane, has joined calls for Havering Council to beef up its enforcement teams.

Due to the financial cuts imposed by the current government over the past 13 years, Havering Council slashed its enforcement services.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “Jon Cruddas MP and I receive regular phone calls from residents concerned about parking issues, building works that break conditions, and anti-social behaviour, that Havering Council can only seem to issue reference numbers for.

It’s clear that the new administration at the Council faces the legacy of problems as the result of choices taken by the outgoing Conservatives which led to the redundancy of 400 officers. I want to see as a priority in future budget rounds that provision is made to boost these services.

Cracking down on those who flout the rules and in doing so blight neighbourhoods and cause nuisances to families is vital to making sure the area is attractive to people and businesses.”

Margaret added: “ I will be asking the Labour Group of Councillors at Havering to add their voices to this call and press for better funding for enforcement services when discussions on next year’s budget happen.”
