Sue Hedges really is a community hero. In 2016 Sue lost her son Ricky Hayden to knife crime, now she has dedicated her life to not only campaigning against knife crime, but donating vital life saving Daniel Baird bleed bags across the capital.

The Havering mum has been nominated for a ‘Pride Of Britain award’ by the community after her incredible work across the streets of London.

Sue runs the Ricky Hayden Memorial where she donates Daniel Baird bleed kits and units to as many establishments as she can. These kits are vital life saving tools that are sadly needed across our communities. They are used for any form of catastrophic bleeding such as knife wounds and road traffic collisions.

It was indeed thanks to Sue that a student stabbed on his way to college in Ardleigh Green several months ago, is still alive. The student was able to make his way into the college campus where teachers used the Daniel Baird bleed kit donated by Sue, to save him.

Sue never looks for praise or thanks, she does this in a bid to stop another family feeling the pain her and her family experience daily after losing Ricky. She is a very kind, caring and compassionate person who wants to help her community the best way she can. For the record, Sue never puts herself first, but always her family and her community.

After learning that it was her bleed kit that had saved the student’s life in Hornchurch, Sue’s first words were, “Now I know my son has not died in vain and his memory will live on.”

Sue is an incredible lady and a true hero.
