Police officers across East Area Command Unit that incorporates Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge, were yesterday praised for their heroic actions that have saved many lives across the area.

At the Commendation Ceremony hosted by Commander Stuart Bell, the officers were given commendations and special awards for their work, most of which has seen them risk their own lives to save those of others in our communities.

The event was attended by members of the public and all three Mayors from the three different boroughs: Havering Mayor Councillor Stephanie Nunn and Consort Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Barking and Dagenham Mayor Councillor Donna Lumsden and Redbridge Mayor Councillor Jyotsna Islam.

East Area officers have shown outstanding bravery and their work across the three boroughs has been vital and so important to the community. We thank them for their endless commitment and dedication.

Havering Mayor Councillor Stephanie told the Havering Daily:

“It was an emotional event, no none could fail to be moved by the bravery of our officers, putting themselves into dangerous situations to save others.Often being attacked and injured themselves but carrying on with the task to help achieve successful arrests for the perpetrators.

“The BCU Commander Stuart Bell said in his speech that on average two officers are injured in the line of duty every day in his area.  They are dealing with mental health issues, violence and drugs yet they do not get the press they deserve, only negative stories sell newspapers it seems.  I was so proud of all the officers and a civilian who received awards, we are lucky to have these fine people looking after us.  No one wants to go to work knowing they might be violently attacked, but that is the job our police officers undertake every day on our behalf and I thank them all most sincerely.”
