Amazing Hornchurch campaigner diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis as a teenager -to run marathon to raise support and public awareness for all those suffering with this hidden disability.
A Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferer is running the London marathon next year to raise funds and awareness for all those suffering with this debilitating condition.
At the age of just 13 years old Megan from Hornchurch began to have problems with her joints. After achieving gold and becoming ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh, Megan then had to have a knee operation after a dislocation.
Despite these challenges, the teenager continued to carry on her many activities in the community and it was at this early stage that she got diagnosed with arthritis. It was deemed so bad at this early age that she was given biogenics treatment that completely revolutionised her life.
Although under going so many difficult challenges in her life, Megan went on to get a degree in Italian and Hispanic studies and has now trained and qualified as a cabin crew member for British Airways. But that’s not where it stops! Megan has undertaken a half marathon to raise money and awareness of hidden disabilities and how they impact people’s lives.
Megan said: “I am running the 2024 TCS London Marathon for Versus Arthritis. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 19 years old. When people hear the word arthritis they automatically think it is a condition that affects those of an older age or it has developed through injury. Many people don’t know that there is more than one type of arthritis and that this disease can affect anyone, at any age including those who are younger.
“This chronic pain condition can be debilitating and can really take a toll on your mental health as you learn to navigate life in a different way.
“When I was finally diagnosed, it was life changing. I am on biologics treatment which involves a fortnightly self administered injection. This has allowed me to live a normal life of a 22 year old.”
Now, Megan is raising awareness of this condition that impacts so many and wants to raise as much money as she can to help other access this important treatment.
Megan is a hardworking, kind hearted and motivated young lady who loves to help others, Despite the many challenges she has faced, she has carried on and achieved so much in her life. Her determination has seen her accomplish so much and now, she has set herself the mission to run the London marathon.
Please help Megan raise funds for those who also struggle with this hidden disability and need treatment.
