‘Op Sceptre sees a multi agency approach working across our communities to keep people safe’-East Area Police launch crackdown on knife crime.
Police are launching a crackdown on knife crime this week as part of Operation Sceptre.
Operation Sceptre is a coordinated week of activity where Police forces across the country raise awareness of knife crime and through information and intelligence, proactively target knife related offences.
This operation compliments the work officers carry out on a daily basis to tackle knife crime and remove dangerous weapons from the streets. The operation will include working with partners, additional high visibility patrols, particularly in hotspot locations and targeting repeat offenders.
Schools Officers, have planned assemblies, knife arches and weapon sweeps. Whilst education is high on the agenda as part of their business as usual, during this week there is an enhanced highlight on the dangers of carrying a knife.
Inspector Julian Bertie from the Violence Support Unit in the East Area, covering Havering, Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge told the Havering Daily: “Whilst the causes of knife crime are complex, early intervention and putting in place measures to tackle the root causes are absolutely essential. With a focus on targeting the route cause of knife crime. Operation Sceptre will highlight ongoing multi-agency arrangements with schools, charities, retailers, the health service and communities to keep people safe from harm. Communities have a vital role to play in tackling violent crime and we urge anyone who may have information to tell us, so that we can tackle violence together”.
