Man arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer in Havering and Dagenham.
A 49 year old man was arrested this morning, Monday 15 May on suspicion of impersonating a police officer.
This comes after numerous residents contacted the police following concerns about the male who was seen with flashing blue lights in his car, carrying an asp and wearing handcuffs.
Residents had reported being threatened by the male on several occasions and that he had led them to believe he was a police officer.
On resident reported seeing the male speeding up the road with flashing blue lights, stopping traffic and threatening to hit him with a cosh.
A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:
“On Monday, 15 May police arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of impersonating a police officer. He remains in custody.
This follows reports made to police raising concerns, including on social media, about a man acting in a manner in the Rainham area which may lead people to believe he was a police officer.”
Enquiries into the circumstances remains ongoing.
