Rainham resident hits out at dangerous A1306 New Road that she believes is ignored by the Council.

Residents living near the A1306 New Road, Chandler’s Corner to Sandy Lane are fed up with this stretch of dangerous road that has sadly seen another fatality last week.

Kelly, who lives in Rainham spoke to the Havering Daily about the ongoing situation: “I have written to the council many times over the years about how dangerous this stretch of the road is and have been constantly ignored.

“Last week, sadly a lady died at the junction with Wennington Road and Willow Farm. Sunday the boot sale was on in the same location. Drivers park their cars everywhere making it difficult to see other traffic and very unsafe for pedestrians.

“They cause traffic, block the road and pull out unsafely, even across oncoming traffic. They are often impatient and there are no marshals. Last week there was a massive bonfire on this site with black smoke billowing across this dangerous junction. This road already has to deal with smoke from the landfill site.

“This is a 40mph road with islands down the middle, it has junctions to residential roads, two pubs, a hotel, a cafe with parking for lorries, a fishing lake, club house, golf course and driving range.

“Adding to this a gravel pit, farmland and other agricultural fields. It also suffers from fly tipping and people randomly selling stuff in lay-bys when lorries are not parked there. Plus the infamous Launders Lane is also off this road.”

To add to all these issues now housing estates have been added with more side turnings.

Kelly continued: “Something needs to be done urgently before another person loses their life. We need traffic lights, roundabouts and better road lay-outs with signage. I have seen more roundabouts in small residential roads across the borough, than there are in all of Rainham.

“Rainham is largely forgotten by Havering Council and this part of Rainham is only remembered when they want to add a new gravel pit or dumping ground. How long has it taken for the landfill fire to get noticed?”

Rainham Councillors Jackie McArdle,Sue Ospreay and Sarah Edwards told the Havering Daily:

“We send our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the lady who tragically lost her life last week in a fatal collision on the junction of Wennington Road and New Road A1306.
“We have spoken at length to the manager of The Table Table Restaurant at Willow Farm, Kelly Loan and have passed her and other residents thoughts and concerns to the relevant officers and Cabinet Members from Havering Council.
“There is of course a full investigation taking place which will include the road layout and usage.
“We would like to appeal to Drivers using these roads to please be aware and considerate of other drivers and pedestrians and to prevent this happening again- please reduce your speed.”
