Parking Outrage As Quiet Upminster Road Repeatedly Targeted By Wardens.
Residents living on Winchester Avenue are fed up with a targeted campaign to ticket their vehicles despite it being a quiet road, away from any high street.
Nine years ago a new parking scheme was introduced that saw parking bays placed across the Upminster road, but the scheme never took off and locals were left with these bays for no reason.
Now, the marking on the bays have virtually faded, there are no yellow lines in place, yet zealous parking wardens arrive Saturday mornings just after 8am to ticket residents whose back wheels over lap the bay by small amounts.
Gary who lives on Winchester Avenue told the Havering Daily: “It was last Saturday that I saw a parking attendant arrive at 8am and go and ticket my neighbour’s truck because the backs were just slightly over the marked bay.
“I called out from the window and said ‘Give me a minute mate and I will get it moved.’ He replied ‘Too late and grinned as he hit the print button to print out the ticket.’
“I do not understand why we are being targeted. We are a quiet road on an estate and have these parking bays for no reason whatsoever. No one else in this area has these bays, just us.
“It really has been a campaign to target us.”
Gary says the campaign began last year after the jubilee weekend when residents had moved their cars so that a street party could be hosted.
“We had moved our cars out so that a party could be held and found that the morning after, wardens were out at 8am ticketing all our vehicles despite knowing that it had been a jubilee weekend. Since then, they saw that ours was a quiet road, away from anyone and that our vehicles were not causing any problems for anyone so they target us weekly.
“We are fed up of being shafted. We do not understand why we have these bays, there is no reason for them and no other road on the estate has these. You can hardly see any of the markings of the bays.
“Residents are getting tickets regularly and their appeals are rejected for no good reason. Ours is a quiet road out in the middle of now where. Why are we being punished?
Local ward Councillor Chris Wilkes has been to Winchester Avenue to see these bays for himself. Cabinet Member Barry Mugglestone is now looking into this matter to see why the road needs these parking bays.
