It’s time we give the Met police the help they need and not repeatedly keep pointing the finger at them like troublesome children being given a detention.

The London Liberal Democrats have called on a ‘Burglary Response Guarantee’ after reporting that the Met had failed to attend 12,000 burglaries in London last year. The question to ask is why?

Perhaps the London Liberal Democrats could also call for proper funding for the Met Police to allow them the ability to do this.

As a political party, the Liberal Democrats are aware of the fact that the Met has been cut to the bone for years upon years and now the results are clearly visible for all.

The figures show that everyday 34 burglaries go unattended by police officers, this is abysmal, but the key question is just why is this happening?

For those ready to knock our police officers at every possible occasion, their response will be along the lines off police officers being too lazy to come out and investigate. The reality is of course, that detectives across the capital are completely over whelmed, as stated in the Casey Report, with such a heavy work load that it is not possible for them to reach every job as they should. Chances are they have to make a choice between investigating a rape or a burglarly and as such, the burglarly goes on the back burner.

These statistics make for unpleasant reading, but officers have been begging and pleading politicians for over a decade now to stop the austerity funding towards our police officers as they new this would be the outcome.

Here we are in 2023, and we have lost countless police stations, even more experienced officers, our basic command units struggle to get full response teams out, and our detectives including trainees have work loads that are unimaginable.

As correct as it is to call out these figures, it is also important to call out the reason why, which they have failed to do.

This is another point scoring game where the Met has been placed in the middle once again.

Call out poor figures, but highlight the reason why, which you have failed to do.

Officers are stretched, all officers from response, to detectives struggle to keep on top of an ever growing work load. This is repeatedly not mentioned.

If you are going to point the finger at the Met, then also highlight just why they are struggling as they are.

It is time we gave the Met police the help they need to go forward and not repeatedly just keep pointing the finger at them like troublesome school children being given a detention.

They need the right funding to be able to correctly police London, something they have being asking for for a long time and no one has listened.

It would have been nice if you had actually said that this is Conservative Government POLICY. It isn’t an accident that public services are in chaos. They have a different set of values to the people of this country. They behave like revolutionaries trying to change society to fit their image.
