Elm Park community hero and local firefighter Tony Gladman has raised over £1K by running a marathon for local charity First Step and Albert who attends First Step and suffers with Ushers Syndrome.

When Tony is not battling fires, he is out raising money for important charity organisations such as Hornchurch’s First Step.

Six year old Albert was born with hearing loss in both ears. The hospital ran tests and they all came back negative so his family assumed there was nothing further.

Then, two years ago Albert became light sensitive and his family took him for further tests. The tests confirmed that he had Ushers Syndrome which is a combined form of blindness and deafness. As this is such a rare condition, it means that a lot of research and funding is needed to find a cure.

Over the weekend Tony ran the Brighton Marathon in a bid to raise as much money for Albert.

Tony had aimed to raise £500 for the local charity and Albert, but has so far doubled that with £1030.

Tony really is an incredible community hero who has dedicated his life to raising as much money as he can for charities.
