At Long Last Improving Low Police Morale Is Being Addressed.
Very little has been written to address the important issue of raising police morale. The recent Casey Report findings highlighted how low morale is, particularly amongst officers across all the Basic Command Units, something that most in the policing world already know.
This report has been essential in highlighting so many vital points needed, one of which is of course the issue of low morale. We all knew that officers out on the ground were once again going to be subjected to more abuse, however, this report has actally given them a much needed voice.
Labour has now pledged to improve police morale. This really isn’t a difficult task to do. Any police officer can tell you that this can be done by paying them properly so they don’t need food banks. Improving their working conditions so they are treated fairly, and are looked after as they should. Provide vital funding to the police service to increase the number of officers that have been horrendously cut back for years and ultimately get the support from their own senior leaders and the government when needed that they currently lack.
For years, officers especially front line officers have been the source of much abuse, be it on the streets or on social media. They are continuously attacked either verbally or physically and have very little support for them.
Two off duty Met Police officers were stabbed last week, did we see anyone call this out? Of course not and then they wonder why police morale is low.
These officers are doing a vital job in our community that could ultimately cost them their life, but instead of being supported, quite the opposite happens.
It is promising to finally see someone actually come forward and begin to look at how police morale can be improved. So many thousands of officers go to work each day with heavy hearts, working the streets of London knowing that thanks to years of continuous attacking, they have an uphill battle everyday.
Let this tide change now, let those who should have been supporting our officers for so long, finally come forward and start the process of improving police morale.
If you want to see the reality, go out on a shift with our response officers and see what they face for yourself, chances are you will want to return to your office very quickly and count yourself lucky that you do not do that job.
However, remember they do and they have chosen to do it to make a difference in our community and their bravery is seen everyday across the capital.
