As you read this post, PC Kyp, a school’s officer in Southwark will be in his school where he has an amazing relationship with staff and pupils that he has built over a period of time. Not only is he a great role model for the youth in the area, but he is also well known for his incredible basketball skills.

A recent tweet showed PC Kyp playing basketball and showing off his skills that has made him the local legend he really is.

The Havering Daily met with PC Kyp.

“I have built up a trust with the youth here. My role is not to criminalise, but to educate and help the youth to the best of my ability. I really am here to support them and playing basketball with them has been a great forward for me.”

PC Kyp is a local lad through and through.

“I grew up here in South London, I played street basketball like many kids do. I fell in love with it and played it at a good level. Now, dribbling and shooting hoops has been a great way forward for me to engage with the youth.

“Basketball has broken down many barriers and has really allowed me to build trust and confidence with the youth here. I often get called to teenagers who clearly state that they will only talk to me. It has also allowed me to be seen as more than just a uniform. When I get to school, pupils are happy I’m there they come up and high five me.”

PC Kyp has worked hard to build up an incredible trust with the pupils at his school. The basketball video clearly shows just how respected he is.

“My role as a school’s officers allows me to do great work with our youth. I’m there to support them and help guide them in the right direction and do my best to stop them going down the wrong path.

“I became a police officer as I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and doing this role has given me that opportunity.”

Basketball has been a great ice breaker for PC Kyp who is a fantastic player.

“It began when I was filmed dunking and from there I was invited to the London Lions to play during the half time break. We went with pupils from our school and they loved watching me, although I was very nervous!”

It is officers like PC Kyp that really make a huge difference across our communities. His work is invaluable and his enthusiasm and passion for his job and basketball is what has made him the success he is. He really is a local legend, and his work is the back bone of vital policing that is needed in our communities.

The public are not interested in endless talk, what they are interested in is the amazing work officers like PC Kyp are doing across communities. The trust he has built is what really matters to people.

Well done PC Kyp, you really are an amazing role model and a credit to your job.
