Hornchurch woman angry at mess contractors have left her roof in.
A Hornchurch woman is angry after being left with damage to her roof following repair works by council contractors on her neighbour’s roof. Contractors were seen throwing tiles of the roof and on to a skip below leaving a catastrophic mess behind them.
Catherine who lives on Newmarket Way told the Havering Daily: “Council contractors came to replace my neighbour’s roof. No one was informed, the first we knew was the arrival of the scaffolding.
“They began throwing the old tiles off the roof into a skip down below, leaving a mess everywhere. We had pieces of broken tiles on our cars, drives, gardens, it was awful. They also left a mess on my side of the roof and had moved many of my tiles out of place.
Catherine then began the journey of trying to contact the contractors.
“They told us the work was going to be signed off last week but it wasn’t even finished and they had left my roof in a mess!
“I tried calling the council and in the end I took to social media where I clearly displayed the chaos they had left on my own roof”.
After posting the photos of her roof on social media, Catherine received a phone call from the project manager.
She continued: “He was very apologetic and said that staff should be following health and safety procedures. He also said that the work was not going to be singed off until repairs were done to my roof. I need my roof to be structurally sound and not be in fear that my tiles are going to come flying off!
“It’s sad that I had to resort to social media to get the issue fixed but I hope things will all be resolved now.”
