Andrew Rosindell MP demands a fair deal for Romford.
The Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has called upon the leader of Havering’s Labour/Residents Association administration, Councillor Ray Morgon, to rethink planned parking tariff increases in Romford.
The MP expressed concern about the fairness of different rules for parking charges for residents in Romford compared to other communities within the borough of Havering.
According to the Havering Residents Association’s proposed budget, parking tariffs are to be increased across the Borough of Havering. This is particularly unfair to constituents in light of the absence of parking charges for periods of 30 minute in Hornchurch and Upminster.
Appendix C of the budget indicates a rise during all period hours with free thirty minute parking available in Hornchurch and Upminster, but not in Romford.
The MP highlighted the burden that the residents of Romford already face, including the cost of living crisis and the implementation of the ultra-low emissions zone by Mayor Khan. The proposed increase in parking charges will add further economic hardship to the residents of Romford.
The MP is calling on the Leader of Havering Council to reconsider this decision, stating that Romford deserves a fair deal. The MP stressed that parking charges must be fair and affordable, as exorbitant tariffs will drive shoppers away and harm local businesses.
Speaking this week, commenting on the issue, Andrew Rosindell M.P. said:
“Havering is one borough, so how can it be right to have different rules on parking charges for residents of Romford, compared to other towns and communities. Parking charges must be fair and affordable, otherwise our town will lose shoppers and our businesses will suffer. As Romford’s M.P., I cannot support the proposal by Havering Council’s Labour/Residents Association administration to impose exorbitant increases in parking tariffs in Romford. The plan being put forward in Havering’s Budget will mean an average increase of 34.2% and a maximum of 48%. This is particularly unfair to my constituents in light of the recent decision to suspend parking charges for 30 minutes in Hornchurch and Upminster. The residents of Romford, who are already grappling with the cost of living crisis, face further economic hardship with Mayor Khan’s implementation of the ultra-low emissions zone and now, parking charges are set to rocket too. I am today asking the Leader of Havering Council to reconsider this decision. Romford deserves a fair deal!”.
