A meeting was held yesterday (Thursday 2 February) between Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust staff, Havering’s Leader of the the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon, Cabinet Member Councillor Barry Mugglestone and council officials to discuss the parking issues at Queen’s Hospital in Romford.

Following an article in the Havering Daily last month that highlighted the poor parking facilities for hospital staff and how one nurse had been issued three parking tickets in one week, Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Morgon stepped in to start a review into parking conditions for hospital staff and those attending the hospital.

Councillor Morgon began talks alongside Councillor Mugglestone with the local hospital representatives to discuss how to go forward to resolve the parking issues in Romford.

Local resident Lee contacted us to inform us that his wife, a nurse at Queen’s Hospital had to park at a council owned car park where she had received three parking tickets in a week.

Parking runs out at midnight at this car park, so hospital staff have to leave their work, to place another ticket on their vehicle and despite this, still get parking tickets.

Following the Havering Daily article, Councillor Morgon began discussions with council officials.

Councillor Morgon told the Havering Daily: “We had a meeting yesterday with hospital representatives to look at ways to go forward to help staff and those attending the hospital.

“I know the hospital are now holding a review themselves into their parking facilities.

“We are now working together to help staff and patients visiting the hospital.”
