Trees for Havering team creating a greener Havering
On Saturday 21st of January, Trees for Havering hosted its fifth tree planting event of the season at Harrow Lodge Country Park.
The event saw a team of residents from across Havering, come together to support the campaign. The event was also attended by Elm Park H.R.A councillors, Cllr Stephanie Nunn (Deputy Mayor of Havering) and Cllr Barry Mugglestone.
Volunteers planted around 800 new trees bringing this seasons total so far to 4800. The aim of the campaign is to plant as many trees as possible across the borough and make it not only greener but also to improve the quality of air.
This is one of a number of large locations the council have provided Trees for Havering to create new woodland so it is important as many people get involved and help to plant trees. There will be more events scheduled over the next 2-3 months so please attend at least one event if you can.
Event organiser Ross Elliott told the Havering Daily,
“Thank you to everyone who attended the event. It is always great to meet other people who share our passion for planting trees. Everyone who attended said they had a great time and will be back to help at future events.
‘Tree planting is not only great for the environment but also for your well-being and the campaign provides the community with the opportunity to do their part to help the environment.
‘I would like to thank The Woodland Trust and The Conservation Volunteers for donating the trees and also Ahern for they recent donation which has allowed us to purchase more equipment and trees.”
The event will be back at the same location. The following two events are in Rainham. More details https://www.eventbrite.com/o/trees-for-havering-58881000893
