Upminster Councillors entered numerous grounds to refuse the planning application that had been submitted to Havering Council for the possible build of a five storey hotel in Upminster.

At a meeting this week, Cabinet Members listened to the local ward councillors’ objections and knocked back the planning application.

The application came on behalf of Eastern Ironworks in September last year and would have seen a five storey hotel be built where the current car lot Time Tees is.

Many local residents had been very vocal in their objections to this planning application, stating that Upminster has no need for a hotel, the placement is in a very poor location with no parking available and the hotel would be too large for that small area and look completely out of place.

Upminster Ward Councillor Oscar Ford told the Havering Daily:”I am pleased that the grounds for refusal the Upminster Councillors submitted have been listened to. The size and bulk on the high street would have been too imposing. We now need to wait and see if the applicant will appeal. This will require them to apply to the Planning Inspectorate within six months. If they do appeal the letters of objection that had been sent through to the Council will be forwarded through to the Planning Inspectorate, along with Havering Councils grounds for refusal.”
