Community Comes Together at Hornchurch Country Park for COVID Memorial Tree Planting Event
On a beautiful autumn morning, members of the community gathered at Hornchurch Country Park to take part in a tree-planting event organised by Trees for Havering. The goal of the event was to plant 1000 new trees in the park, bringing the total number of trees planted so far this season to an impressive 4000.
The tree planting event was a great success with around 40 volunteers showing up to help. This included friends groups, couples, families, and community groups such as the Ismaili Civic group who had over 10 people volunteering at the event. The volunteers were divided into teams and were assigned different areas of the park to plant the trees. The teams worked diligently throughout the morning, planting a variety of trees including Oak, Maple, and Hazel. Everyone was excited to be a part of this important initiative to increase the park’s tree cover and improve the environment.
The tree planting event was just the beginning of Trees for Havering’s efforts to increase the tree cover in Havering. Over the next couple of months, similar events are planned in Rainham, Upminster, and Elm Park and Trees for Havering is looking for as many volunteers as possible to help with the planting.
Trees for Havering’s efforts to increase the tree cover in the area are a great example of how a community can come together to make a positive impact on the environment. Its mission is to make the area greener and healthier for all to enjoy, and these events are a step in the right direction.
