Despite multiple signs clearly stating road closures on Wennington Road, van drivers are still using the road as a cut through for East Hall Lane in Rainham. Drivers are mounting pavements and putting residents lives at risk by driving through the numerous road closure signs.

Councillor Sue Ospreay has been visiting the area daily to support residents there who are still dealing with the aftermath of the horrendous fire. The road closures are due to the demolition of the houses that were destroyed last July.

Councillor Ospreay told the Havering Daily: “This is outrageous, I cannot believe people’s stupidity and not using their common sense. They can clearly see the many road closure signs that have been placed, yet they are still using the road as a cut through.

“Van drivers are actually mounting the little pavement left for residents to walk on, and putting people’s lives at risk. Someone will get killed if the keep doing this.”

The video footage taken shows a van go through three road closure signs, the many metal fences closing the road and then mount the pavement to get passed.

This is happening daily as van drivers use Wennington Road as a cut through.

“Residents have been standing out there asking drivers to please not go through, but they are given a mouth full of abuse.

“This is completely unacceptable,” finished Councillor Ospreay.
