Dagenham and Rainham Labour representatives join forces with Wennington fire victims to call on firebreaks installation.

Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has added her support to Wennington fire victims who are calling for the installation of firebreaks.

Councillor Mullane told the Havering Daily: ” The devastating fires of July last year destroyed 14 homes in Wennington Village and another 14 homes in Farm Close, Dagenham. One of the lessons to be learned is that where houses back onto fields fire breaks have to be created to stop the spread of fires.Global warming is a reality and we must start to take action now to protect our homes and lives. Families’ lives at Wennington Village and Farm Close have been turned upside down. I will be supporting the campaign to call for fire breaks to be created where there is the risk of wild fires spreading to homes.”

Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas MP told the Havering Daily: ” I am working with the London Fire Brigade on the need for fire breaks to reduce the risk of terrible events that occurred in July 2022 happening again. I have a meeting to discuss bringing this issue before Parliament in the next two weeks with the Havering LFB Commander and am arranging to meet with the Barking and Dagenham Commander on this vital issue “.
