East Area police officer assaulted whilst detaining a male.
An officer from the Violence Suppression Unit was assaulted last week and had her finger dislocated whilst detaining a male.
Officers were on patrol just before 8pm on Tuesday, 3 January when they approached two males standing next to a parked vehicle at Hatley Avenue, Ilford.
As officers approached to speak to the males on the pavement a third male exited the front passenger door of the parked vehicle. Sergeant Wiseman from the Violence Suppression Unit approached the third male when he assaulted her before fleeing on foot.
She told the Havering Daily: “I was detaining the male under the Misuse of Drugs Act when he assaulted me. I had to go to hospital where they have placed my finger in a splint and am under the fracture clinic.
“I can’t drive or write now and have to do light duties for several weeks until my finger is healed.”
The hospital X ray clearly revealed how Sergeant Wiseman had her finger dislocated.
The officer is now being supported by her colleagues under Operation Hampshire that supports officers after they have been assaulted.
Sergeant Wiseman is a very proactive member of East Area’s Violence Suppression Unit who do a fantastic job across all three of our boroughs. No police officer goes to work to be abused and assaults like these are despicable and completely unacceptable. They also highlight just how challenging it is to be a police officer in our society today.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the male.
