A Romford grandmother has hit out at the judiciary system after her grandson was assaulted in Hornchurch and the culprit walked away from court.

Linda reached out to the Havering Daily after reading our story on police officers who were assaulted and their abusers also walked free. She told the Havering Daily: “What does it take to get a good sentence, or a decent system where repeat offenders do not just get a slap on the wrist?

“My grandson was assaulted and the suspect walked away and then went on to assault others a little while after. I am really fed up with the system we have here. The man who attacked my grandson then went on to commit further offences.

“I saw the article about the police officers who were assaulted and how one got a suspended sentence despite throwing boiling water over the officers and the other did not even have a trial! It really is unbelievable.

“Criminals get a badge of honour every time they commit a crime and then regularly get away with it. Life does not even mean life anymore. I do not understand why our system is so poor, how low do we have to sink before something is done?”

The Romford grandmother is angry with the poor judiciary system and her and her family feel extremely let down by the judge who let her grandson’s attacker walk free from court.

“It is appalling, it really is. He was allowed to walk away after assaulting my grandson and as we all predicted, he went on to assault others.

“Parents who lose their children to knife crime also see weak sentences for those carrying knives. The system is not right, it needs a complete shake up. Those who carry knives face next to no deterrent and as a result, knife crime continues.

“I hope something is going to change, at the moment people are extremely disappointed in the system.”
