Private for profit GP walk-in service operating in Rainham.
‘Total mismanagement of the NHS following 12 years of Tory government’-Jon Cruddas MP
Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has responded to the news that a private for profit GP walk-in service is operating in Rainham.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “ This shows how far our NHS has fallen after 12 years of Tory government cuts. Good quality healthcare should be a right for all, free from charges. Instead this points to the Tory view of the future, a two tier health system with those with enough money to pay getting one level and everyone else getting inferior care.
Our grandparents argued for and voted for Labour in setting up the NHS in the teeth of Tory opposition. We simply can’t allow the NHS to be relegated by the Tories now to become a second rate service for those who can not afford private treatment.”
Jon Cruddas MP told the Havering Daily: “ There is a slippery slope towards an American style health care system and this private for profit walk-in clinic in Rainham takes us along that path. It’s understandable that local people facing a 29 days wait for a GP appointment might turn to this. But this has come about as a result of the total mismanagement of the NHS following 12 years of Tory government.
I can promise that I will be arguing in Parliament and locally with NHS authorities that what we need is to strengthen the NHS not run it into the ground.”
Margaret added “ We have a cost of living crisis hitting the lives of local families, charging £15 to register for this clinic and then a minimum of £40 every time you need to see a GP rising to £205 is a slap in the face for local people.”

It is essential that everyone fights for the principal of the NHS and the right to free health care at the point of need.
Tories ruining the NHS on purpose so that people feel they have no choice but to pay.
