Anti knife crime crusading mums meet Deputy London Mayor in bid to combat rise in knife crime across the borough.

A Havering family joined forces with other bereaved families to combat the rise in knife crime across Havering and London. Sue Hedges and April Hayden met Deputy London Mayor for Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden on Sunday at a special event in Newham to remember more than twenty people who have died from violent incidents.

Sue and April were joined by Julie Taylor from the Liam Taylor Legacy to talk about their endless battle to stop knife crime and violence across our streets.

Both Sue and Julie have donated many Daniel Baird bleed kits to businesses across Havering, Essex and east London. Julie handed over the first bleed kit unit to the Hornchurch pub The Fatling and Firkin and Sue handed over the first bleed kit unit to a Romford pub The Sun, in the summer this year. Both ladies donate these vital life saving bleed kit units each week to a variety of different establishments not only across Havering but east London as well.

The Daniel Baird bleed bags are London Ambulance approved and are essential tools for catastrophic bleeding such as knife wounds or gun shot wounds.

Sue told the Havering Daily: “We will always keep doing everything we can to stop the horrors of knife crime. Myself and the many other bereaved families are united in our battle to help save as many lives as possible.

“The Daniel Baird bleed units and kits are vital life saving tools and we thank everyone who helps us donate as many as we can across the Havering community and east London one. Sadly they are important life saving tools that are a necessity on our streets.

“We are all united in the bid to help fight knife crime and hope that these life saving tools will help save a life.”

Sue, April and Julie are known across London and Essex for the incredible work they have accomplished in the battle against the knife. The ladies really are crusaders who spend all their time doing what they can to stop these horrors on our street.

Julie has just recently won a Pride of Britain award for her total dedication to stopping knife crime since losing her grandson Liam in 2019. Both mums are inspirational figures, well known in our community for their incredible work.
