‘This economic crisis is down to 12 years of Tory failure’-Jon Cruddas MP

The Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas has given a strong thumbs down to the latest budget from the Tory Government.

Mr Cruddas told the Havering Daily: “This is an attempt to put right the disaster of the Tories’ last budget of a few weeks ago, that blew a hole in our economy. Britain has so much potential. But right now we’re facing a cost of living crisis that’s holding us back – with mortgages, rent, food and energy all going up and up. This economic crisis is down to 12 years of Tory failure and wasted opportunities.

“The Tories say this is a global problem, but no other country is in this mess. Our economy hasn’t been working for far too long. The UK is the only country of the world’s biggest economies that is still smaller than before the pandemic. Every other G7 economy is now bigger than it was at end of 2019.”

Jon went on to say: “Labour has a long-term plan to get our economy growing again – powered by the talent and effort of millions of working people and thousands of businesses.Growing jobs across every part of the country in renewables, nuclear power and insulating homes. With a modern industrial strategy where government works hand in hand with business. We need to fix business rates so our high streets thrive againand put skills at the heart of our plan for growth.”

Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham said:“This budget will hit working people across our area. This was a budget that was great for the super rich, the so called non doms who exploit the tax loopholes. The principle should be if you make your home in the UK, you pay your taxes here. It was also great for the highest paid bankers, because their bonuses are not being capped. All this at the time that working families trying to make ends meet are facing a 7% cut in their standards of living in the next two years.”
