The Havering Daily yesterday Thursday November 17, ran an article stating that a recent YouGov poll held revealed that 60% of Londoners did not want the ULEZ expansion.

In response a spokesperson for the London Mayor told the Havering Daily:

“The premise of this polling question is completely wrong and misleading and therefore these results are not worth the paper they are written on.

“The Mayor is not allowed to expand the ULEZ in order to raise revenue and that is not why he is considering doing it.

“A ULEZ expansion is being considered because Toxic air is a matter of life and death. Air pollution leads to four thousand Londoners dying early every year, children growing up with stunted lungs and millions suffering from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

“Our recent credible YouGov polling shows that Londoners want the zone to be expanded London-wide, with nearly twice as many Londoners supporting the expansion than oppose it. Expansion of the ULEZ would benefit millions of people living in outer London.

“The Mayor is determined to build a better London for everyone and strike the right balance between taking the necessary action to protect the health of Londoners while minimising the cost to drivers.”

These figures are factually wrong – in fact over 60% oppose but the Mayor is running roughshod over the results of his ‘consultation’.
