Our letter to the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Dear Prime Minister Sunak,

Firstly congratulations on being the first British Asian Prime Minister in England. As you are now the country’s Prime Minister, the responsibility lies with you and your new government to help the people.

The vast majority of the English public did not have a say in you being chosen as a Prime Minister and as such it is up to you to show the people that you are as you say, the right choice for England.

It is important to state that you are now, the Prime Minister for all of the people here and as such you must now be able to understand everyone’s needs, something the vast majority of people here believe you will not be able to do.

In Havering, due to the repeated government cuts to funding, we are having to make what our leader of the Council has described as ‘very unpopular’ choices. In other words our council are being forced to make horrendous cuts to vital assets to our community. Children centres are being closed, and as a family man, you must surely know how vital these are, especially during a time when so many children are suffering mental health issues.

Funding to charities whose work is so important to our community, has been axed as once again our council have no choice but to make savings to avoid the borough from going under.

Our parks are not going to be locked at night due to the shortage of funding, another cause for concern as residents see the increase in anti social behaviour taking place on our streets and in their much loved parks that are so important for locals.

Refuse is now having to be collected fortnightly due to cuts. This is a huge area of concern for locals who worry about the state of their streets and take pride in their community.

All these cuts are taking place because the government, your previous government have cut and cut funding to local councils who are now struggling.

Residents in Havering are suffering the cost of living crisis, like so many others. You talk about making difficult choices, but let me ask you this Prime Minister-have you ever stood in the supermarket and had to make a choice between which product to buy as you cannot afford both? That is what so many people here, people that you now represent are suffering. As you go to work today, so many people will be having to make horrendous choices such as do they heat their house, or do they buy shopping?

We are supposed to be an affluent country who help third world countries, yet there are millions of children going hungry today.

A Romford resident recently waited 12 hours for an ambulance to bring his elderly father to hospital-is this acceptable?

Our police needs proper funding and our officers need to be properly looked after. Our NHS needs urgent funding-did you know that police vehicles are taking people to hospital as ambulances are tied up at hospitals, as they in turn struggle to deal with the high level of people needing urgent care?

As our new Prime Minister, we urge you please, to take note of all these issues now. Help Havering residents and so many other boroughs that need urgent funding. Help our emergency services, and most importantly help those who work long hours and have been told by previous Conservative MP’s to avoid the cost of living crisis by working longer hours or getting a higher paid job.

These comments have clearly shown the public just how out of touch they are.

We urge you not to be like that and actually support the people.
