Residents who feed our large population of wild aquatic birds in Hornchurch parks are fearing they may have become victims of Avian flu after witnessing dead birds floating on our lakes.

Gary from Hornchurch visits a variety of Hornchurch parks daily to feed the ducks and swans. He told the Havering Daily: “We have been feeding the signets at Hornchurch Country Park for some time now and sadly they have now all died.

“We suspect it could be Avian flu that is being bought in by Canadian geese migrating.”

Gary and other local residents have been monitoring the current situation and working alongside Park Rangers.

“It is important that if residents do sadly see dead birds, they do not touch them or attempt to remove them from the water.”

Our birds are much loved in the area and fed by many who visit the parks.

Please note this is not in all our parks.
