Celebrating Black History Month 2022 in Barking and Dagenham.

October marks the beginning of Black History Month – the annual celebration of the culture, history, and achievements of black, African, and Caribbean people.

As part of the festivities, a packed programme of events will be held across the borough for residents to get involved in.

On Monday 3 October, the official Black History Month flag was raised at a special event at the town hall at 12-midday where it will remain for the rest of the month.

A host of events are planned throughout the month including a music history quiz, workshops, talks, and exhibitions.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills & Aspiration, said: “Our borough is one of the most unique and diverse in the capital, which is what makes it such a great place to live and work.

“Black history is British history, and it is right and fair that we take time to acknowledge and celebrate the past, present, and future of people from the black, African, and Caribbean backgrounds.

“These events are for everyone, and we urge everyone to come along and celebrate together as one borough, one community.”
