Councillor Dilip Patel is set to climb Mount Everest in a bid to raise as much money as he can for local charities.

The popular former mayor and Mawney ward councillor has been climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon to prepare himself for the huge task of climbing Mount Everest.

Councillor Patel told the Havering Daily: “It has always been on my bucket list to climb Everest and I want to raise as much money for local charities as I possibly can. Local businesses have been very supportive and are prepared to donate to help me raise money for these important charities.”

Councillor Patel will announce the two charities he is supporting next week.

“I am looking forward to undertaking this challenge and raising as much money as I can for local charities here in Havering.”
