A single mum with two children is angry at Havering Council for leaving her family with a portable toilet that she has described as a ‘bucket with a lid on the top’. Lynette from Highfield Road in Collier Row, had a flooded bathroom last week due to a drainage problem and contacted the council straight away for help.

Lynette told the Havering Daily:”The bathroom flooded last Thursday, the water leaked everywhere and I literally had to use all my towels to clean it up.

“I contacted the council and told them what had happened and they said they weren’t able to send anyone to me until the following day and advised me to pee in a bucket and throw it down the sink.”

Lynette was left with a wet bathroom and no access to a toilet for her and her two children due to the flooded bathroom.

“On Friday they arrived and left me with a portable toilet until my bathroom dries out. But this portable toilet is basically just a bucket with a lid on it. It’s disgusting and there is no drainage to it so whatever is done there, is just left and not going anywhere. It is really unhygienic.

“I have two children, one has Hirshsprungs disease which means she has to access the toilet regularly and my six year old suffers with asthma. I have endometriosis and also need to use the toilet frequently, plus I suffer with mental health conditions and this has been a nightmare for me.”

Lynette contacted the council yesterday (Monday 26 September) and was told the nearest date council workers could come out to remedy this, was this Thursday-a week since her bathroom was flooded.

“It really is disgusting the situation they have left me in. It is so unhygienic. I am bi-polar so situations like this really cause me problems and my mental health issues go through the roof.

“I worry that my children will be ill, having been left with a damp bathroom like this, plus they are not happy to use the portable toilet as it really is awful.”

The Havering Daily contacted Cabinet Member for Housing Councillor Paul MGeary who informed us that he was addressing this issue as a matter of urgency and doing everything he could to resolve the situation for Lynette.

Housing is one of the most challenging problems here in Havering and councillor MGeary is a very respected member of the council who is tackling all these issues as best he can.
