PC Jennifer Ayres joined the Met Police to really make a difference in our community and has dedicated her time in rebuilding the trust of local residents in policing.

PC Ayres is a Safer Transport Team officer here in East Area and spends her time working across our transport system, not only keeping buses safe, but also working on our highways making sure dangerous drivers are caught and removed off our streets.

Jennifer joined the Met two months after leaving Exeter University and has been at East Area ever since.

“My father was a former Met officer and I grew up with the police. I wanted a job where I could really make a difference and have a caring and supportive role and I knew that policing would provide me with all those opportunities,” she tells the Havering Daily.

“I really enjoy my job and helping to rebuilding the public’s confidence in the Met. Our days are very varied- we work on buses dealing with assaults and also on highways keeping them safe.

“It is great being able to positively engage with the public and show them what work we do in the community.”

Policing can often be a very challenging job, but Jennifer has learnt how to deal with the challenges when they arise.

“I try not to take my work home with me. It can be hard at times if you have attended a sudden death and have been dealing with a heartbroken family. You then go home and realise just how lucky you are to have yours still around you.”

When Jennifer is not busy being a police officer, she loves baking cookies and cakes and sharing them with her team. She has currently been commissioned by her colleagues to bake a lemon drizzle cake, which I’m sure they will all be very keen to sample!
