Many youths from all parts of east London yesterday (August 31), attended an amazing youth engagement event held at Barking Abbey by east area police. The event provided the opportunity to take part in boxing classes, football matches, listen to a talented rapper, see two beautiful police horses, eat some pizza and even take on some police chiefs in a game of football!

Havering and Barking Volunteer Police Cadets were also on hand to chat to local youths who might be interested in joining the cadets, as well as recruitment officers to talk to youths about the many fantastic opportunities available in joining the Met police.

Two officers from the mounted branch attended with their horses to talk to the community about their role in the police, just how varied their job is and their dedication to their police horses.

Even local Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector Chris Nixon joined in the fun with his officers by participating in a football match.

Box Up Crime were on hand to teach youths and police officers how to box and thanks to founder Steve who actively encouraged youths to stop carrying knives and make something of their lives instead.

Talented rapper Jay1 Rems an artist from east London provided some great rapping at the event.

Well done to everyone involved, it was a fantastic community event that showed the great community relationship east area officers have with local youths and their communities across the three London boroughs.
