New LGBTQ+ social club launched at the Mercury Mall.
New club looks to support the young adult LGBTQ+ community
Kaleidoscope is a new free social club for over 16’s, within The Mercury shopping centre. It aims to create an LGBTQ+ safe space in Romford.
We are inviting young people from the LGBTQ+ community to join us at our first event to decide what activities should be on offer for our community locally and to meet up and socialise.
There are very few free social spaces, and even fewer that are LGBTQ+ orientated. Due to the high rates of alcoholism within the LGBTQ+ community, the group is set to be an alcohol-free space where queer youth can meet other people within the community and learn about the history and culture. It will also be completely free to join.
Our long-term goals are to change how people perceive Romford. To advertise it as a space that is not dangerous for LGBTQ+ people of all ages, as well as to build the local queer community.
Kaleidoscope will run every first Tuesday of the month, in the bar area of Premiere Cinemas where creative events and educational talks will be held, along with a dry bar.
Our first ‘Getting to know you’ event will be on 6thSeptember. It will begin at 5pm and end at 7pm.
