Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon speaks out regarding the death of over 200 fish at Harrow Lodge Lake.

Pictures of over 200 dead fish at Harrow Lodge lake in Hornchurch have shocked and upset many locals in the borough.

Councillor Ray Morgon, leader of the council in response told the Havering Daily:

“It is extremely sad to see that fish have died in the lakes in Harrow Lodge Park and we know it is very distressing for our residents and park users.

“As a result of the combination of extreme drought followed by heavy rainfall last week, dirty de-oxygenated water was flushed through the river that feeds the lakes from surface level drains.

“Our teams, along with local conservation volunteers, have been on-site removing what they can and also using pumps to help restore the correct oxygen levels to the lakes.

“Oxygen levels are now back to normal but we will continue to monitor the situation, remove any remaining dead fish and will work to keep the lake as healthy as possible.”
