Titanic Musical launched at Brookside Theatre.
The Brookside Theatre is about to set sail on its maiden voyage of Titanic this August and invites you to embark on this journey with them.
At the helm of the production is the theatre’s Artistic Director, Jai Sepple and Jai wants audiences to know that, unlike the movie, this isn’t the fictional story of Jack and Rose.
“The writers of this musical-retelling of the doomed White Star Line Ship’s maiden voyage did extensive research into the real people on the ship and the focus of the show is on the ship’s actual passengers and crew including Captain Smith, J. Bruce Ismay and Thomas Andrews as well as first class millionaires that boarded including the Astors, Guggenheim and the Straus’. Second and third class stories are also represented and the result is an insightful look into the existing class system at the time.”
Jai continues: “This production not only marks the 110th anniversary of the infamous sinking but also the 10 year anniversary of the theatre opening its doors in 2012. With a cast of 23 performers, the opportunity to perform in this moving show has brought together a talented group of individuals who are excited to tread the boards at the theatre in what promises to be one of its best productions in this its 10th year.”
Musical Director Mark Smith speaks for the entire cast and crew when he says they have all been “swept away’ by this stunning piece of musical theatre; “The special thing about the score is its beautiful, powerful music: from the opening soaring intervals when passengers see this amazing ship for the first time to the very end where it is obviously a different emotion and loved ones are being lost and lives torn apart.”
Choreographer Harri Sepple adds, “For me, working on Titanic has re-emphasized the fragility of life and the importance of the journey.”
TITANIC THE MUSICAL has a book by Peter Stone and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston The show won the 1997 Tony for Best Musical and is sure to be a hit with local audiences young and old.
