Harold Hill Councillor Paul McGeary tackles flooding head on.
Well respected Harold Hill Councillor Paul McGeary yesterday visited Hitchen Close with the Water Management Team from Havering Council to clear the culvert.
Following endless flooding issues over the past years, Councillor McGeary is tackling this issue head on and doing what he can to prevent further flooding from taking place across the area.
Councillor McGeary told the Havering Daily:
“I was on site yesterday to see the culvert being cleared of rubbish and vegetation to keep the drain free and running clear.
“When I spoke to the workmen they said that this area had not been cleared for over five years. Despite the recent flooding earlier in the year, the council did not take the correct action needed to maintain the culvert.
“We have as local councillors been working with the residents and particularly the Harold Hill Wombles to get improvements to the Hitchen Close Green.
“I would particularly like to mention Michelle Squier who leads the Wombles.
“As the new lead member for Housing and the area comes under housing department ownership, I organised for the Water management team to come with all the necessary plant and equipment to clear the culvert and make sure the surface water drain was free flowing so that the culvert would not block if we have more flash flooding.
“A good example of the new administration getting thing done for residents, listening to local needs, which have not been tackled by the previous administration.”
