Let today be the day that we actually show praise for our emergency services instead of continuously knocking them at every possible moment.

Our firefighters have worked tirelessly for two days non stop literally tackling blaze after blaze with no respite and in unbearable conditions to put out some of the largest fires Havering has ever seen.

Despite conditions of 39c, firefighters tackled endless fires that have destroyed hectares of land across the borough and sadly many homes. They have worked in extreme heat, wearing heavy kit to tackle these blazes head on.

Our Fire Chief Borough Commander Paul McClenaghan has led from the front being at every fire and working side by side with his troops.

There is not enough praise that can be given to these men and women for their incredible work.

Huge praise to our police officers for supporting their bluelight colleagues and being at these blazes as well under extreme heat. Standing in a variety of locations across Havering and east London due to road closures caused by the fires.

Police officers are normally first on scene and begin to take control of an incident until their respective partners arrive.

Today is the day we must show our support for their incredible work in our community, work which is vital. These two unprecedented days have highlighted the importance emergency service workers do in our communities and how we should be thanking them for what they do.
