Councillor Ray Morgon talks about the new administration and how HRA are doing what they promised voters they would including a cut in his own salary as council leader.

On Monday 13 June a full council meeting will take place at the Town Hall that will identify all the new cabinet members and their roles and the way the new administration plans to take Havering forward. The new administration sees a combination of Havering Residents Association councillors combined with Labour councillors. It now has 9 cabinet member positions and and less committees that cuts back on spending.

Councillor Morgon told the Havering Daily: “We promised we would make changes to the system here and stream line it to reduce spending and that is exactly what we have done. Yes we have added two new cabinet positions but we have also streamlined the committee system and cut back as we promised.

“Several sub committees have been eliminated now- we only have two left one for people and one for places. We have also agreed to give the scrutiny committees to our opposition party as we had asked the Conservatives over the last few years to let us run the scrutiny committee and they never allowed that. So now, we have done what we have said we would.

“It really is an administration that will see councillors allowances based on their responsibilities and work loads. I expect people to work hard the same way I expect them to push me to work to the same high standards.

“There have been many committees over the last years that have been there just to pay Conservatives £7,500, we have put a stop to that and cut these right back. I have cut back on my own allowance by £5,000 as I said I would.”

The new proposals have come from the HRA budget proposals that were published in March this year and Havering’s new Councillor leader is keen to let residents know that he and his team are keeping their word.

Full council meeting will take place Monday June 13 and will be available to watch on the Havering Council web site.

The cut in salary is not thanks for HRA. It is thanks to the North Havering Resident’s Association, who proposed and won for the salary cuts at the last budget setting.
