Havering Fabian Society’s June monthly meeting, held at Harold Wood Neighbourhood Centre on Monday (6th June) was addressed by guest speaker The Rt.Hon.Jacqui Smith, who in 2007 was appointed Britain’s first female Home Secretary – one of the great offices of State. Ms.Smith appeared in her role as Chair of Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust but also spoke on law and order and other issues in an interesting and highly topical address, after which she answered a wide range of questions from the floor.

This well attended meeting was chaired by Councillor Keith Darvill, who was elected as an MP at the same 1997 General Election as the guest speaker. Mr.Darvill proposed a well applauded vote of thanks at evening’s conclusion.
