Anger at ‘two votes’ only leaflet handed out in Hylands ward.

A local resident and Conservative member James Devo has hit out at the Hornchurch Residents Association following the delivery of their leaflet calling on residents to use their ‘two votes’ for Hylands ward, when it is a three ward seat.

On election night, Hylands ward turned from a three seat Conservative ward to a two seat Hornchurch Residents Association and one seat Conservative.

James Devo told the Havering Daily:”The pamphlet distributed by the Hornchurch Residents Association a day before the local elections, was completely misleading. It is not very moral what they have done and really is not right.

“Voters were told to pick two when this is a three seat ward.”

During election night the results for Hylands ward that was predicted to be a safe seat for the Tories, came as a shock when they lost two seats to the Hornchurch Residents Association. A ‘block check’ recount was under taken with the results coming out the same.

It is believed an official complaint has now been made.

Mr Devo continued: “It is not that case that I am bitter over the results, but what the pamphlet said was very misleading to the public and not morally right.”

The pamphlet given out a day before the elections.

The calling card stating you have only two votes was a genuine error and not meant to mislead the public. Postal votes letters and at the Polling station clearly stated that up to 3 votes could be cast. Strange how Mr Devo overlooked the Conservative leaflets that were full of lies and deceit and had been produced that way rather than our error which was a genuine mistake. Not all members received a calling card.. .

      Dear Ray.

Thank you for your message. The leaflet clearly provided incorrect information which could have affected constituents’ voting intentions.

If the error was a genuine mistake, surely the residents of Hylands and Harrow Lodge Ward deserve an apology from the Residents Association?

      Regards, James

More the pity the Residents Association should have not even fielded just two candidates in my ward. They have mislead the people on their leaflets and they had an angry reactionary anti-Conservative election strategy. It’s pathetic.
