Superintendent Lisa Butterfield from East Area police has authorised a section 35 dispersal zone across different parts of Romford town centre. This starts today Saturday 30 April at 3pm and finishes on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May at 3pm.

The area covers Romford ring road, Union estate, Mercury Mall, Cottons Parks, Waterloo estate and all under passes, roads, public spaces and thoroughfares within the ring road.

The police have issued the dispersal order because day time economy in the Town Centre recently has seen a noticeable increase in footfall which has led to an increase in shoplifters, aggressive begging, bag
dippers and increase in youth violence. The night time economy has also seen a number of alcohol and drug related incidents.

The authority is to be used to prevent further incidents and protect the public.
