The Havering Daily is running a list of the different candidates across Havering in preparation of the local elections on May 5.

Today we have Linda Trew, who is an H.R.A Candidate for Mawneys ward.

The main reason I am putting myself forward to once again become a Local Councillor is exactly the same as it was 12 years ago.  For the community I live in.  I have lived in Romford for forty-four years, my two Sons and four Grandsons were all educated in Havering and I am very pleased to say they all have very successful lives.  Unfortunately, I feel that the concurring Conservative Administrations have not taken Havering Forward. We have a failing Town Centre, the market is no longer fit for purpose, the roundabouts are a disgrace through lack of investment compared to other Boroughs, It’s shameful.

The neglect to make Romford a place you would like to visit is not a priority.  In my opinion, the most prominent problem with the Conservatives is the lack of accountability.  No monitoring or recall of Contractors for horrendous workmanship on roads, pavements and Council housing. For example, Mawney Close residents have had months of shoddy work, builders swearing and drinking on the job, rudeness and total disregard for residents’ well-being.

Neither of the current Local Councillors has done anything to help these residents even though they are fully aware of their issues. Morally, the lack of accountability for misdemeanours by Local Councillors is prevalent, promising monetary and positions to gain votes.  Inappropriate behaviour with no consequences. Lack of transparency as to exactly what or how the Administration make the decisions they do. Totally inadequate consultation with residents with regards to various Planning proposals.  Services are at an all-time low with the Council Tax being increased at a very difficult time for residents given the rise in the cost of living.  Many good people have lost and will lose their employment at the Town Hall. The Council are now carrying out works that should have been done over the past four years but is now firefighting just before the local elections. That is why I am standing for the Havering Residents Association.  Havering needs a change.  If you vote for HRA and move away from the main political parties, we will do all we can to regenerate Havering for the future.

Linda Trew

(ex-Mayor)
