With the local elections just two weeks away, all the parties in Havering united outside the Town Hall in Romford on Friday 22 April to agree the Jo Cox pledges.

Set up by Independent Residents candidate Sharon Heron, the pledges are as follows:

  1. Set an appropriate tone when campaigning.
  2. Lead by example to foster democratic debate.
  3. Promote and defend the dignity of others, particularly my opponents.

MP Jo Cox was a Labour MP for Batley and Spen before her horrific murder in June 2016. These pledges have been launched to promote an appropriate tone by candidates when out campaigning following numerous incidents where candidates have been threatened and verbally abused.

Representatives from the different parties across Havering all gathered together to sign the pledges and agree respectful canvassing and campaigning.
