The Havering-atte-Bower Scarecrow Competition returns!
The Third Havering atte Bower Scarecrow Competition is returning over the early May Bank Holiday Weekend. The competition is very popular in Havering with many locals travelling to Havering-atte-Bower to see the spectacular scarecrows outside houses and shops in the area.
It is planned that scarecrows will start to appear from 23 April onwards. Judging will take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend (30 April-2 May) but locals are hoping that the scarecrows will stay up until at least 7 May.
Scarecrows will be either outside houses or on the village green. Over the last two years many residents and visitors have really enjoyed the sight of the Scarecrows on the green and around the village. Previous Scarecrows have included Boris Johnson, Henry VIII, Captain Tom, Humpty Dumpty and many more.
Entries are open to all residents of the village (that is those that live within the village signs). Those that live outside the village can still join in the fun by putting up scarecrows outside their houses or on the green but, sadly, they will not be part of the competition.
Entry is very simple, just let Phil Date know by email to p-date@sky.com that you are joining in. Please provide your name, address, where the scarecrow can be seen and perhaps a little about your scarecrow. All entries will gain a certificate to thank you for taking part and the winner will get a modest box of heroes.
