Harold Hill residents fed up with Hilldene parking facilities.
Residents parking at the Hilldene shopping area are fed up to see some of the parking machines out of use but the traffic warden still waiting to ticket local shoppers. Locals took to social media to vent their anger at the fact that despite the two nearest machines not being in use, the traffic warden was still on stand by waiting to issue tickets.
One local resident who did not wish to be named, told the Havering Daily:
“These machines are generally never working, we have to walk quite a way to get a ticket and then when we return, we find that we have been issued a penalty charge by the traffic warden as it has taken us that long to walk to get a ticket! It is becoming really difficult to go to our local shops and I know many people who have stopped using them because of this.”
A spokesperson for Havering Council told the Havering Daily:
“We currently have six parking machines that service the Hilldene shops. Unfortunately, two of these machines are out of action due to vandalism, but four are fully functioning and are checked twice per day by enforcement officers.
“Residents wishing to park also have the option of using the RingGo app, which also offers a discount on parking fees.”

I had many times when I couldn’t find a machine working .I can’t walk far and found it so frustrating. Hiĺdene has Rd and is not a car park .I pay Rd tax and have never been happy about this paying. I’m now disabled with a blue badge but has turned me off going there. Sad times .shame on you havering council soooo gready .sort your traffic money grabbing wardens out .discusting behaviour.
I have read your article and have experienced all of the issues already raised but wanted to add that due to the impossibility of paying for parking at the Hilldene shopping center I did download the ring go app. I opted for the free 30 mins option and was surprised to have been charged 40 pence and then the second time I used it I selected one hour parking which cost 2.50 so I can safely inform people there are no discounts for choosing to use the ring go app just the boring and predictable massive hike in parking charges. Can the people responsible for this fiasco sort it out please and oh yes sacking the Ring go mafioso company for a start.
I have received two parking fines recently when both nearby machines were out of action and the other was covered in a black bin bag. I think they only way to get action is to organise a boycott of Hilldene Shopping Centre which sadly may well have a negative effect on local businesses. But what can we do when the council has gone through periods where no machines are working and then pouncing on unsuspecting motorises who visually see black bin bags on the machines outside Iceland and across the road near the Post Office.
