Creative workshops come to Orchard Village.
Bluerskies Mindful Creatives (BMC) are bringing creative, collaborative workshops to the Orchard Village Community.
BluerSkies Mindful Creatives (BMC) are a local creative duo who believe passionately in the positive power of creativity for people’s wellbeing. BMC were recently commissioned to bring a series of three workshops to Orchard Village by The Orchard Collective Creators, a group of local people that live or work in the area whomake decisions about what art and cultural activities to bring to their community. The Orchard Collective Creators are one of four Havering Changing SteeringGroups.
Two very successful workshops have already happened at The Mardyke Community Centre. The first workshop named ‘Cardboard Orchard’ saw members of the community come together on a very rainy Saturday afternoon to build their version of the estate using recyclable materials. Charlotte of BMC said “we sat and talked about the roads, shops, flats, trees, statues and all the little things you see from your window. It was a beautiful way to show love and appreciation for the areayou live in and tune into your surroundings by noticing the small things. We could see what wonderful connections people had with their neighbours/friends and took great inspiration from the relationships formed when living in close communities.”
The second workshop in the series called ‘Together we Create’ saw people share their hobbies and interests, creating individual and group collages to express what brings them joy. Lucy McDonald, Havering Changing Local Area Worker for Orchard Village said “the supportive atmosphere at the session was wonderful to be a part of, we saw people brand new to the community socialising and making alongside other, longer standing residents. Lots of shared interests emerged during the session and saw how Orchard Village is brimming with creative people!’
Due to the successes of the workshops so far, The Orchard Collective Creators have very recently decided to extend this current series and would loveyou to come along to the next one to get involved and share your ideas to make future workshopseven better!
Pop along to The Mardyke Community Centre on Saturday 19th March, 5-9pm for the next session called ‘Ideas Grow’. You can come along for a little while, or settle in for the entire session. We will also share some delicious food from local businesses at this evening session, which is OPEN TO ALL.
