Celebrating International Women’s Day-Councillor Viddy Persaud.
Another inspirational lady here in Havering is Councillor Viddy Persaud, one of the hardest working councillors you can find.
Councillor Persaud shares her thoughts on this special day.
Today, 8 March, is International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the world.
As a woman of colour, I am proud to serve as a Councillor for the Rush Green and Crowlands (Brooklands) Ward in Romford and as the Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Culture. I am privileged and honoured to be given the opportunity to serve the community in which I live, work, educated my two sons and also making time to care for my elderly parents who also live in the ward I serve. The journey has had its challenges, but I see these as opportunities to make me stronger to do the work I feel passionate about.
This year I would like to pay a special tribute to all the women working tirelessly in the NHS and care homes who have been on the frontline in the battle against COVID-19. Also to those who at home are mothers, carers, home-schoolers and breadwinners, often all at the same time.
I pray for the women of the Ukraine at this time, as they protect their families from the wickedness that is being inflicted on them by President Putin and the Russian regime. We are so fortunate in this country to have been led by a magnificent woman, Her Majesty The Queen, for the past seventy years.
So this year, I will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and I hope we will all give three cheers for this great lady who has served our nation and the Commonwealth so well, for so long!
