Well done to Team 4 of the Violence Suppression Unit who have taken two knives off the street in two days following self generated proactive stop and searches.

The first was incident came after seeing two males loitering by an address in Rainham who were unable to account for their presence. One was a wanted male for harassment and the second in possession of a lock knife.

The second incident came after police tried to engage with three youths in Barking who were uncooperative and as such grounds for a stop and search were established. The result found one of the youths was carrying a small amount of herbal cannabis and in his waistband was a large kitchen knife which he stated was for his own protection.

Knife Crime Prevention Order

A 14 year old male was stopped and searched by officers on the top deck of a bus and he informed police that he had a knife and handed over a 14cm kitchen knife to the officers. He was charged and plead guilty at court. A Knife Crime Prevention Order was obtained at his sentencing hearing on 26/01/22 with the following conditions:

The subject must not.1. Carry any knife or bladed article in any public place (Save for an item of cutlery provided by a restaurant, café or like establishment for its customer use for the purposes of dining in and only for the time he is a customer within those premises. Save for when engaged in training or at school premises and only at the time of that training or school activity) 2. Contact directly or indirectly other named juveniles unless they attend the same educational placement and contact is reasonable due to the circumstances. For example, are placed in the same class.
